Prayer Is Not A Religious Activity! Jan 6, 2015

O You who hear prayer, to You All flesh will come.’ (Psalm 65:2)

Prayer is our conversation with God!  Our commune with God.  The Bible says in Psalm 62:8, '..Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.'  Prayer is pouring our heart before Him.   We also see the Bible characters prayed in their distress and when they faced challenges.  Our Lord Jesus also prayed to the Father in heaven when He was in this world.  As His children and as believers in Christ, we are commanded, instructed by Jesus  to pray.  Jesus' inseparable communion with His Father in Heaven during His earthly ministry emphasizing us  the importance of prayer in our life.

When I was young I used to see my mum prays often and gathered us four children and prayed as well.  She delighted in our family prayers as well.  I remember the short prayer she taught us how to pray when we are afraid or if we face any danger.  Although, I did not realize the importance of prayer until the day she died and gone to be with the Lord.  Till then prayer was one of the religious activity in my life.  I prayed when I had to write exam or I used to bother God for something I desperately wanted at that time.  To my surprise, I got answers for those child-like and childish prayers.   God who commanded us to pray also listens to our prayers and answer them as well.

My prayer life began to  change since after I received Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior of my life.   My heart longed to commune with Him.  Approaching God ONLY for my needs and wants vanished away. Instead my prayer time became gracefully enjoyable.  Yes, prayer without a relationship with God who loved us and gave His Only Son Jesus Christ on the cross is merely a religion.   He delights to listen to anyone who calls upon Him.  For example I can give you few Scriptures for that; Psalm 50:15 ('Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.')  Psalm 32:6 ('For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him.)

The very purpose of prayer is not just go to God with our needs and problems; the ultimate purpose is to commune with God.  In prayer we commune with God and God with us.  Since we are in the New Testament time, we are more privileged than those men and women of God in the Old Testament.  We are so privileged to have the Spirit of the glorified Christ dwelling in us to guide us in our prayer.  The Bible says, in Rom 8: 26-27, 'Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.27Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.'  These Scriptures are very clear about the very reason why the Holy Spirit is given to us and His ministry in our lives.

This blog is all about prayer.  You can get more insights about prayer and be more effective in your prayer life as well.

Also if you have any prayer concerns which you would like to share with me and want me to pray for them, I would be delighted to pray for them.  Please send your concerns to my email id: apostolic.gloryministries@gmail.com.

Don’t give up because you did not get answer for prayers.  Your perspective of  God and prayer will be changed once you grow in your relationship with God, in the revelation knowledge of Him. I encourage you to pray even when you don’t feel like to pray.  Don’t go by your feelings but by faith.
